0.075 MGD extended aeration or 0.150 MGD contact stabilization McNeill "QUAD" wastewater treatment facility. This expansion of the existing McNeill "QUAD" 0.114 MGD extended aeration was completed some 20 years after the first construction.

Comments:
In a competitive bid situation for the original construction, the McNeill plant, although not the lowest price, was recommended by Mr. Alan Aront, P.E., the project engineer. His decision was based on projected long range savings in electricity, chemicals, maintenance upkeep costs and maintenance labor the McNeill plant would provide.

The expansion was bid with the McNeill equipment and technical support package price written into the bid documents for all bidders to use.

Project Description:
Constructed as a 650,000 GPD addition to the utility districts existing treatment facility. The McNeill patented "HEXA-DITCH" common wall design was used to save the district 30% to 40% in initial construction cost of the concrete structures, 75% to 90% on process piping and the plant is operating with some 70% savings in energy cost.

The common wall construction of the patented "HEXA-DITCH" also means an easier and more cost efficient expansion when needed.

McNeill Water & Wastewater, Inc., provided a unique wetwell valvebox to the owners of Riverdell. This design by W. B. McNeill, Jr. is a quality controlled factory built unit that provides substantial savings in field installation costs to the owner. Later that year the engineer contacted McNeill Water & Wastewater, Inc., about plans to provide a wastewater treatment plant to serve a subdivision.

The plant selected would have to meet or exceed the stringent effluent requirements of the State of North Carolina's Division of Water Quality Control. McNeill worked with the engineer through the design/permitting and construction phase.

Comments:
The Windermere facility features state of the art technology and design processes to provide a quality effluent that will be used in public access areas at build out. One example is control of turbidity. Before the treated wastewater goes into the irrigation system the turbidity is read by a turbidity meter. This meter will reject the flow if it does not meet a predetermined criteria and direct it to a reject pond.

Once the turbidity reading is satisfactory, an automatic valve will allow the water back into the system. Another unique feature is an electric control panel regulated by computer. It can be read and allow changes in the plant operation from an off site computer located at the McNeill Technical Department over two hundred miles away.
